Podiatric Wellness Program for Patients

Congratulations! You’ve taken a great first step towards proactive foot health by enrolling in our Podiatric Wellness Program. We leverage your insurance benefits to maximize coverage for preventative care and ongoing management of your foot health.

Your initial and annual exam usually takes 60+min. Follow-up exams can last between 30 and 45 min to discuss all the required testing or treatments.

Here’s an example of your personalized plan:

  • Diagnostic Tests: We’ve ordered appropriate tests covered by your insurance, such as a comprehensive foot exam, vascular testing (ABI), and neuropathy screening. For additional tests like bone density scans or sleep studies, we’ll submit pre-authorization requests to your insurance company as needed.
  • Nutritional & Physical Wellbeing: We highly recommend attending our program’s informative classes on nutrition, cooking, and fitness. These classes equip you with the knowledge and tools for healthy living.
  • Weight Management & Emotional Wellbeing: Additionally, consider participating in our weight management and yoga/emotional well-being classes. Taking a holistic approach to your health benefits your overall well-being, including your feet.
  • Foot Health Supplementation: We discussed the potential benefits of vitamin supplementation tailored specifically for foot health. Our Vitamin Bar offers a curated selection for you to explore.
  • Custom Orthotics (Optional): We discussed the possibility of custom orthotics to address any foot pain or gait abnormalities. We’ve scheduled a follow-up appointment to discuss fitting options and verify your insurance coverage for this service.
  • Pain Management: During your next visit, we’ll delve deeper into your lower extremity pain and explore effective treatment options.
  • Insurance and Billing: Our dedicated billing department will ensure accurate coding for all services rendered within the program and manage the pre-authorization process efficiently.

Core Services (Covered by Most Insurance):

  • Annual Comprehensive Foot Exam: This exam typically includes a detailed evaluation of the skin, nails, joints, and muscles of the feet. It’s crucial for early detection of foot problems and often covered by preventative care benefits.
  • Vascular Testing: Ankle-brachial index (ABI) testing is a non-invasive procedure to assess circulation in the lower extremities. This may be covered depending on the patient’s insurance plan and risk factors.
  • Neuropathy Screening: Basic neuropathy screenings like monofilament testing or vibration perception testing are often covered to assess nerve function in the feet.
  • Gait Analysis: Evaluating a patient’s walking pattern can identify gait abnormalities that may contribute to foot pain or injuries. This might be covered under some insurance plans.

Additional Services (Potentially Covered with Insurance Prior Authorization):

  • Bone Density Scans: With prior authorization from the insurance company, bone density scans might be covered for patients with risk factors for osteoporosis.
  • Sleep Studies: Sleep disorders can affect foot health. We work with patients to obtain pre-authorization for sleep studies if indicated.
  • Diabetes Blood Tests: For patients with diabetes, specific blood tests for monitoring their condition might be covered by their insurance plan.
  • Therapeutic Drug Monitoring: Blood testing for patients on prescription medications or supplements to monitor the progress and, when needed, manage their treatments for their lower extremity pain.

Additional Options (Outside of Insurance):

  • Vitamin Bar: A curated selection of foot health-focused vitamins and supplements not typically covered by insurance.
  • Custom Orthotics:  We offer custom orthotics for patients who may have a partial coverage or need orthotics beyond what their insurance allows.
  • Yoga/Mindfulness Classes: Develop a fee-based yoga program specifically focused on foot and ankle health and stress reduction.

Orthotics & Bracing

Custom orthotics are specially-made devices designed to support and comfort your feet. Prescription orthotics are crafted for you and no one else. They match the contours of your feet precisely and are designed for the way you move. Orthotics are only manufactured after a podiatrist has conducted a complete evaluation of your feet, ankles, and legs, so the orthotic can accommodate your unique foot structure and pathology.

Usually, commercial insurance does not cover these products nor does Medicare unless it’s bracing above the ankle.
